Seminar for Lunawood installers in Gabarró

03/12/2023

Last Friday we had the pleasure of organizing, together with Lunawood, a conference on "Practical advice on the installation and maintenance of Lunawood heat-treated wood". It was attended by a small committee of our clients who handle the brand the most to provide them with an installation guide and some maintenance tips for Lunawood heat-treated wood.

Begoña Martin was in charge of opening the session with a presentation of Gabarró's services, as well as the history of the company, the products, the brands and our commitment to the environment. Then it was Julia Ahvenainen's turn with a technical presentation of the product, its properties and applications, to continue with the installation guide and maintenance advice. Finally we had the opportunity to hear first-hand a case study of Gomar Ebanistas with their installation of Lunawood heat-treated wood in the cladding of the WittyWood building. It is a project in the city of Barcelona with a facade of heat-treated wood, the first office building in Spain built in wood!

Lunawood subjects the wood to a heat treatment process in which high temperatures and steam are alternated, after which the final percentage of moisture in the wood is approximately 4-7%. This heat treatment improves the performance and expands the possibilities of use of heat-treated wood, since the natural tendency of wood to twist, swell or shrink in different humidity conditions is modified. With this treatment, the wood loses mechanical resistance, therefore, it is not suitable for supporting loads or structural uses.
