Geographic origin: Southeastern United States.

Description

  • Sapwood: yellowish white colour.
  • Heartwood: reddish brown.
  • Fiber: straight.
  • Grain: medium size.
  • Characteristic defects: knots, resin bags, resin impregnations and young style wood.

Capacity of being impregnated

  • Sapwood: medium to low capacity of being impregnated.
  • Heartwood: no capable of being impregnated.

Mechanization

  • Sawing process: easy, except in those cases of resin's excess.
  • Drying process: easy and fast. Low risk of deformations and crack formation. Resin exudations.
  • Planing process: easy. Risk of weakening due to the presence of resin.
  • Gluing process: difficulties can arise due to the presence of resin.
  • Nailing and screwing process: Pre-drilling is required.
  • Finish: difficulties can arise due to the presence of resin. A blending agent should be applied in order to homogenize wood.
